What is the first step to working with David?
Schedule a free 15-minute call. David talks through your child’s current situation, timeline, and goals — and gives you an honest picture of whether the program is the right fit before any commitment is made.
Do you work with students outside New Jersey?
Yes. Virtual sessions via Zoom are available to families across the country. The program is fully effective remotely and a number of current and past students have worked with David from New York, Massachusetts, and beyond.
Can my child work with David on just one service, or does it have to be the full program?
Either works. Some families come for SAT prep only. Others come specifically for essay coaching. David builds the program around what your child actually needs, not a fixed package.
How quickly can we get started after the first call?
Usually within the same week. If there is a deadline or test date coming up, that gets factored in from the very first conversation.
How does David track progress between sessions?
David tracks score movement week by week using real test materials and keeps parents updated after each session in plain language — not vague summaries but a clear picture of what was covered, what improved, and what comes next.
Do students receive any work to complete between sessions?
Yes. Every session ends with a clear focus for the time before the next meeting. Reinforcing what was covered between sessions is part of how the program produces consistent improvement.
What grade is my child supposed to be in to work with David?
Most families start in sophomore or junior year, but David works with students from 10th grade through senior year depending on the goal and timeline. It is never too early to build the foundation, and it is rarely too late to make real progress.
How are sessions structured — is there a curriculum my child follows?
No fixed curriculum. David builds a session plan around the specific student after a diagnostic assessment. What gets covered is determined by where points are being lost and what the timeline requires — nothing is pulled off a shelf.
Does David only tutor the English sections of the SAT and ACT?
Yes. David specializes exclusively in the Reading and Writing sections. Math tutoring is not part of the program. This focus is intentional — it allows every session to go deeper on the areas where most students have the most room to improve.
My child has a learning difference (IEA/504). Does that affect how the program works?
Not negatively. David has worked with students who receive extended time accommodations and adjusts the approach accordingly. The strategy for managing the test under timed conditions remains relevant regardless of the accommodation.
What happens after the diagnostic test — how does David decide what to work on?
David analyzes error patterns across every section and question type, not just the final score. The plan is built around whatever is costing the most points consistently. There is no guessing about where to start.
How does David help with building a college list?
David works with families to build a list that is honest about competitiveness, realistic about fit, and strategic about where the application is genuinely strong. Schools are chosen with intention, not copied from a ranking site.
Does David help with Common App or just the essays?
Both. David covers the full Common App — activity descriptions, short answers, essay, and supplement essays for each school. The goal is for every written component to work together as a complete picture of the student.
Can David help my child with supplement essays for multiple schools?
Yes. Supplement essays — why this school, why this major, a challenge you faced — are covered as part of the full college application program. They are reviewed with the same level of attention as the main personal statement.
What makes a strong brag sheet for recommendation letters, and does David help with that?
A good brag sheet gives the recommender specific details, anecdotes, and accomplishments they can draw on — not a list of clubs and honors. David works with students to build one that actually makes the recommender’s job easier and produces a more specific, compelling letter.
Is there a refund policy if the program is not the right fit?
This is discussed clearly during the initial consultation. David does not take on students he does not believe he can genuinely help, which is why the first conversation is a real one rather than a sales call.
How involved should I be in my child's sessions?
Parents are not typically in sessions — that space belongs to the student. But David keeps parents fully informed after each session with honest updates on progress, next steps, and anything they should know. The work happens with the student; the transparency happens with the family.
What if my child's test date or application deadline shifts?
Scheduling is flexible and David adjusts the plan around real-world changes. If a deadline moves or a test date gets pushed, the session plan adapts accordingly.
Do you work with students who are re-applying after a gap year?
Yes. Gap year students and those reapplying after a previous cycle are welcome. David approaches each case based on where the student is now and what the specific goal is, not a standard timeline.
